Does the order matter?

Absolutely! Applying products in the wrong order could render them, and their active ingredients, ineffectual. Skin care is highly personal and the exact combination of products and the order you apply them, will vary from person to person. Having said that, the basics of skin care routine will apply to most people and are a great place to start.

Skin care routine basics

If you haven’t found the right skin care routine for yourself, or are new to Clochee products, we recommend the following as a starting point:

  • Cleanse
  • Tone
  • Serum
  • Eye cream
  • Moisturise
  • Facial oil

Cleanse

Your skin needs to be oil, dirt and make up free to allow skin care products to work, so always start by thoroughly cleansing your face and neck. Our Soothing Cleansing Oil is particularly good for those with dry or combination skin, because it dissolves make up without stripping moisture from the skin.

Tone

Your toner should prime your face ready for further products; it should be gentle and hydrating (you can never hydrate too much!). Our Soothing Antioxidant Toner is the perfect, gentle all rounder, which tones and moisturises.

Serum

Which serum you choose will depend on your skin type and condition. Serums are essentially a power shot of concentrated nutrients and antioxidants, so choosing the right one for your skin will give it a real health boost. Our Intensive Moisturising Serum delivers a hydration punch, perfect for most skin types and for those with dry skin simply apply a little more serum.

Eye cream

Eye creams, like Lightening Energizing Eye Cream, are typically lighter than face moisturisers, so need to be applied first. Generally, you should apply your lightest, thinnest moisturisers first and follow with any heavier creams.

Moisturiser

Despite the name, moisturisers are not simply for moisturisation. They also help to ‘trap’ the hard working products underneath, making sure they really work for your skin. Of all your skin care products, choosing a moisturiser is probably where you will find the most choice – whether you need it to firm, revitalise and refresh or protect with added SPF.

Facial oil

You can use facial oils as part of your daytime skin care routine or simply at night. Incorporating them into your daytime routine will not only hydrate but promote a healthy glow. Oils can penetrate other skin care products but they cannot penetrate oil so it’s really important to apply your facial oil last.

Alternatively, applying a facial oil at nighttime, when the skin is rejuvenating and regenerating itself will allow your skin to gain even more hydration benefits. Our Antioxidant Serum with Vitamin C is a facial oil and is perfect applied at night, it is particularly good for ageing skin. Simply apply directly to cleansed skin or apply on top of your night moisturiser for smooth, brightened and calmed skin.
